Plant-based pizza venture, One Planet Pizza, has announced a new drone delivery service. 

Customers will be able to receive orders within 60 minutes of placing them through the brand’s DroneDelivery app.

Initially available in selected locations in London and Norfolk on 2nd April, the service is set for nationwide roll-out during the autumn.

Currently 20 drones are ready for launch from the One Planet Pizza HQ in Hethersett, Norfolk, and additional bases are being sought in England, Scotland and Wales.

Co-Founder of One Planet Pizza, Joe Hill, says: “One Planet Pizza isn’t just about creating epic pizza, it’s about delivering change for the planet.”

“Through our significant investment in drone technology, we’re set to save more than a hundred metric tons of carbon a year – which is a priceless achievement.”

He adds: “While we are one of the first companies to go to market with drone delivery, we certainly don’t expect to be the last.”

“Rather, we encourage other direct-to-consumer food companies to explore this new way of reaching consumers, especially those in the plant-based sector where environmental concerns are key.”

Customers make payment, and place their phone in the location from where they are able to take deliveries. This can include a back garden, doorstep or open window.

Ten minutes before the drone is due to arrive, the phone will alert the user of this by beeping and advising them to stand back from their mobile, where GPS data will be used to guide the drone towards the device.

Delivery will cost £6.99, although this is expected to reduce over time.
